Yiddish Spelling
From UniLang Wiki
Spelling can be tricky in Yiddish - usually words are written as they are pronounced (more or less), but there is an important exception: Words which are taken from Hebrew are written as in Hebrew, since it is the loshn koydesh, the Holy Language, although pronounciation changed considerably. You can see that Ashkenazation (the sound changes Hebrew underwent in Yiddish communities in Central and Eastern Europe) influenced also the sound of these two words: in Hebrew you'd pronounce it like lashon kadosh.
