NONDIMPÂ

Nambâre anam Nondimpâ nunura nanempe anja sa qavumbura asempa.

A slave named Nondimpâ once escaped from his master and fled to the forest.

Nâ azina muya xambu nompuñambusa nondorosa sa noñera sa nombuxa.
Then he-wanders when lion it-finds-he it-lies-down and it-moans and it-groans.
As he was wandering about there he came upon a Lion lying down moaning and groaning.

Waranja sempâm arunca,
In-beginning to-flee he-turns,
At first he turned to flee,

va muya xambun awayancoya andala nâ antura sa navando awa.
but when lion him-not-pursues-it it-sees-he then he-turns-back and to-it he-moves.
but finding that the Lion did not pursue him, he turned back and went up to him.

Muya ancuya nâ xambun ose sowemboya sa sontumpa sa soxinga,
When he-approaches then lion its-paw it-puts-out-it and it-swells and it-bleeds,
As he came near, the Lion put out his paw, which was all swollen and bleeding,

sa Nondimpân mandiwântu sompuñambusa sunde sosunuya sa sonjunda.
and Nondimpâ big-thorn it-finds-he in-paw it-went-in and it-hurts.
and Nondimpâ found that a huge thorn had got into it, and was causing all the pain.

Mântu solawusa sa xambume ose sontanjusa,
Thorn it-removes-he and lion's its-paw it-wraps-he,
He pulled out the thorn and bound up the paw of the Lion,

xambu xâza nondifexa nosumpa sa naso fali nâ Nondimpâme ayañ sohusoya.

who was soon able to rise and lick the hand of Nondimpâ like a dog.

Nâ xambun Nondimpâ ofavuzu anamoya,
Then lion Nondimpâ its-to-cave him-tooks-it,
Then the Lion took Nondimpâ to his cave,

sa ñalenâ hunta qasâm sonernoya.
and every-day meat to-live it-to-him-bring-it.

Va xuxâza sa Nondimpâ sa xambu rimpun larawuyo sa loxayo,
But after-soon and Nondimpâ and lion people them-catch-they and they-are-captive,
But shortly afterwards both Nondimpâ and the Lion were captured,

sa nambâre ampayuyo xavambu anjemboño,

and Nondimpâ was led out into the middle of the arena.

Xâza xambu nanuxere nonâquyo sa wavâ noyaxa norumba noyunda.
Soon lion from-den it-free-they and to-victim it rushes it bounds it roars.
Soon the Lion was let loose from his den, and rushed bounding and roaring towards his victim.

Va muya Nondimpâ ancuyoya nâ nasi ahâqoya,
but when Nondimpâ him-approaches-it then friend him-recognises-it,
But as soon as he came near to Nondimpâ he recognised his friend,

s'aqâmpoya s'ayañ naso fazurali nâ sohusoya
and him-fawns-upon-it and his-hand how kind-dog thus it-licks-it.
and fawned upon him, and licked his hands like a friendly dog.

Nungun anântala anâmpora Nondimpâ aqahusa ambona, naqorânce sonendilusa.
King he-has-seen he-has-been-surprised Nondimpâ him-orders-he he-come, whole-story it-to-him-tells-he.
The Emperor, surprised at this, summoned Nondimpâ to him, who told him the whole story.

Nuncu nambâre ampenduyo s'alusa,
Then slave him-pardon-they and he-is-free,
Whereupon the slave was pardoned and freed,

sa xambu qarumbura lare nombamâha se nonâquyo.
and lion in-forest where it-was-born there it-free-they.
and the Lion let loose to his native forest.

Wancu ayuna ayuha.
Soul it-is-grateful it-is-noble.
Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.
