Voiced

A voiced sound just means that the vocal chords vibrate while the sound is made. For example, /d/ is the voiced counterpart of /t/.

A sound made without vibrating the vocal chords is called voiceless or unvoiced.

An easy way to tell whether a sound is voiced is to hold your hand over your throat while you say the sound. If you feel your throat vibrate, it's voiced. (Be careful when saying whole words, as almost all vowels are voiced and you may not be able to clearly tell whether the consonant was truly voiced.)
