Turkic languages

The Turkic languages build a subfamily of the Altaic languages which consists of slightly more than 40 languages. The most widely spoken ones are Turkish, Tatar, Kazakh, Kirghiz, Uzbek, Uigur, Azeri and Turkmen. Their sphere of usage spreads from South Eastern Europe in the west, Turkey and Central Asia (also Altai region - origin of the Altaic language family) northwards to Siberia, eastwards to Mongolia and North West China and north-eastwards to Yakutia.
