Talk:Arabic days
From UniLang Wiki
Where have you find those terms and translations? I say this because some translation are not correct
- Saturday comes from ebraic sabbat
- Sunday is "The day the one"
- Friday is "the reunion day"
I'm quit sure of what I'm saying, but before correcting I've put my remarks here.
Saaropean: Thanks for the corrections, Leppie. They wouldn't only be valid for Arabic, but for the languages with day names derived from Arabic as well (Amharic, Indonesian, Malagasy, Malay, Maltese, Oromo, Somali, Tigrigna and Wolof).
- I didn't know about Friday, so I wondered why it didn't fit the number scheme in Aramaic. ;-)
- So the Muslim world uses the Jewish word sabbath? What does that word mean anyway? Is there no relation to "7th"?
- I've found out that Sunday means something like "the only", which is said to be a nickname for the muslim god. That's why I wrote "muslim god". ;-)
Saaropean commenting on a couple of changes to the corrected version:
- The first day of the week is Monday, although this is called "2nd day" in Arabic. That's an international standard that I use on all pages.
- I prefer to use the religiously neutral word "temple". ;-)
- So Sunday is just "the 1st day" and has nothing to do with "the one and only"???
- I also did some minor design changes...
Leppie I'm quite sure about Sunday. I'll ask my teacher.
