Swedish verbs combined with prepositions

From UniLang Wiki

Some Swedish verbs combined with some prepositions, "what's the difference between 'tala om' and 'tala för'" and so on. I will only concern a few couples of verbs, feel free to add new ones!

ATT GE = TO GIVE

ge upp : give up ("Jag ger upp!" : "I give up")

ge sig (not a preposition, but anyway) : surrender ("Vi ger oss" : "We surrender")

ge med sig : surrender for a condition ("Slutligen gav de med sig och erkände att de hade gjort orätt" : "Eventually they surrendered and confessed that they had done something bad")

ge ut = give out, publish ("Han ger ut en ny bok varje år" : "He publishes a new book every year")

ATT SE = TO SEE

se om/efter : take care of, look after ("Se efter dina egna barn innan du kommer hit och klagar på mina!" : "Take care of your own children before coming here and complaning on mine!")

se till : make sure ("Jag ska se till att hon kommer dit i tid" : "I will make sure that she will be there on time")

se upp : be carefull, watch up ("Se upp!" : "Watch up!")

The verb 'inse' (see in) means 'realize'.

ATT TALA = TO SPEAK

tala om (1) : talk about something ("Han talar om naturen" : "He talks about the nature")

tala om (2) : tell someone something special ("Jag måste tala om hur jag egentligen känner" : "I have to tell you how I really feel")

tala till : talk to a person or a group of persons (to address) ("Presidenten talade till nationen" : "The President addressed the nation")

tala med : have a conversation (allthough not necessarily a two-way-conversation) ("Jag har redan talat med honom om det" : "I have already spoken with him about that")

tala för : speak on behalf of something or someone (dative) ("Jag talar för hela mitt folk" : "I speak on behalf of my people")

tala ut : talk something to its end, to tell everything about something ("Vi måste tala ut om det här" : "We have to talk about this, really get going to the bottom of the issue")

(You can in all these cases -except for 'tala till' - replace 'tala' with 'prata', i.e. prata om, prata med, prata för, prata ut.)
