Spanish: Articles
From UniLang Wiki
While english has only two articles, "the" and "a/an", spanish articles have to agree with the gender and number of the noun they go with:
- definite, singular, masculine: the - el
- definite, singular, feminine: the - la
- definite, plural, masculine: the - los
- definite, plural, feminine: the - las
- indefinite, singular, masculine: a - un
- indefinite, singular, feminine: a - una
- indefinite, plural, masculine: (some) - unos
- indefinite, plural, feminine: (some) - unas
In English there is no indefinite article, one says "a house" and the plural would just be "houses". In spanish however there is a plural indefinite article as well, it could be translated by "some" for clarity, but should usually be left untranslated:
Example:
- El perro = The dog
- La casa = The house
- Un perro = A dog
- Una casa = A house
- Los perros = The dogs
- Las casas = The houses
- Unos perros = dogs
- Unas casas = houses
