Slovenian is the american name. You can also say Slovene. For an example of this, compare the URL and title at Omniglot: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/slovene.htm

In their own language it is "slovenÅ¡Ä?ina" and "govorim slovensko" (I speak slovenian). If you want an adjective, try "slovenski jezik" (a/the slovene language). Don't be surprised that a native slovene can talk about "a slovene language" repeatedly, it's just that "a" or "the" isn't used in Slovenian so in "slovene english" you are free to pick and choose a/the as you like.

There is a lot written on Wikipedia, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovenian_language

If you want to learn Slovenian, try this website (which was long ago reviewed in Babel Babble!) http://www.slovenian.com/Enter/index.html

Slovene-speaking communities exist here and there, so search and ye shall find a course with a real slovene teacher!

If you are in Slovenia, try contacting Å olt Zavod in the university towns for really inexpensive courses -- made by students but available for everybody. Intensive courses are available from Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. Read more on http://www.centerslo.net (dig around a bit to find the subpage listing all courses)
