Russian grammar: comparison

There are two basic ways of comparing in Russian. It is important that you know about the comparative form of adjectives.

Тhе word чем functions like the English than.

Он лучше, чем я. - He is better than me.

Мой учитель умнее, чем твой учитель. - My teacher is smarter than your teacher.

Note the use of the comma.

Instead of 'чем you can also use the genitive form for the word you are comparing with:

Он лучше меня. - He is better than me.

Мой учитель умнее твоего учителя. - My teacher is smarter than your teacher.
