Retroflex
From UniLang Wiki
A retroflex consonant is a consonant in which the tip of the tongue is curled back and touching the palate.
In IPA retroflex consonants are marked with a little hook, e.g.: É– ɳ Ê‚ Ê? É» É Êˆ ɽ.
Several Indian languages have retroflex plosives, fricatives and nasals as phonemes: Hindi and Sanskrit टà¥? á¹ [ʈ], ठà¥? á¹h [ʈʰ], डà¥? á¸? [É–], ढà¥? á¸?h [ɖʰ], षà¥? á¹£ [Ê‚], णà¥? ṇ [ɳ]. Other languages may have retroflex allophones, for instance clusters with initial r in Swedish: rt [ʈ], rd [É–], rs [Ê‚]...
