Referring to Persons in Mandarin Chinese

The chinese personal pronouns are very straightforward and have the same form regardless of being subject, object, indirect object, etc...

  • First person singular: 我 (wǒ) - I, me
  • Second person singular: 你 (nĭ) - you
  • Third person singular, masculine: 他 (tā) - he, him
  • Third person singular, feminine: 她 (tā) - she, her

The plural forms are derived from the singular forms by adding the plural marker 们 (men).

  • First person plural: 我们 (wǒmen) - we, us
  • Second person plural: 你们 (nĭmen) - you(-all)
  • Third person plural, masculine or mixed: 他们 (tāmen) - they, them
  • Third person plural, feminine: 她们 (tāmen) - they, them
