Persian (local name Fârsi) is an Indo-European language spoken mainly in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It is written in Arabic script but has genetically no relationship to Arabic. There are more than 110 million Persian speakers in Western Asia, (about 68% of Iran's population), in Afghanistan (60% of the population), and about 2 million Dari Persian speakers in Pakistan.
