Note: this is a literal translation, word by word, of the first chapter of the "Gospel according St. John" from the original greek text in english.

1. Εν αÏ?χη ην ο Λογος, και ο Λογος ην Ï€Ï?ος τον Θεον και Θεος ην ο Λογος
[En archee een ho Logos kai ho Logos een pros ton Theon kai Theos een ho Logos]
En archee een ho Logos = In beginning was the Word
kai ho Logos een pros ton Theon = and the Word was towards the God
kai Theos een ho Logos = and God was the Word.
2. Ουτος ην εν αÏ?χη Ï€Ï?ος τον Θεον
[Houtos een en archee pros ton Theon] =
This was in beginning towards the God
3. Παντα δι’ αυτου εγενετο, και χωÏ?ις αυτου εγενετο ουδε εν ο γεγονεν
[Panta di’ autou egeneto, kai choris autou egeneto houde hen ho gegonen]
Panta di’ autou egeneto, = All through him were made
kai choris autou egeneto = and without him was made
houde hen ho gegonen = not one that has been made
4. Εν αυτω ζωη ην, και η ζωη ην το φως των ανθÏ?ωπων

5. Και το φως εν τη σκοτια φαινει και η σκοτια αυτο ουκ κατελαβεν

kai hee skotia auto ouk katelaben = and the darkness it not overcame
