Chinese: there isn't just one Chinese language, though the various Chinese languages do basically share the same writing system. A great overview is given at Wikipedia.
This section will deal with the biggest of all chinese languages: Mandarin Chinese, as spoken and written as official language in China. That means that we will use simplified chinese script here, and not the traditional script, which is still used in Taiwan for example.
