Conjugation
Lyaib verbs distinguish aspect, mood and the noun class of the focus.
The focus of an intransitive verb is the subject, the focus of a transitive verb is the direct object, the focus of "to go" and "to give" is the direction, and so on.
Definite focus nouns can be given without case prefixes. Definiteness is also assumed if no focus noun is given at all.
Note that the usual word order is (topic) - verb - (subject) - focus.
Aspect
If the verb describes a permanent state, the stressed vowel is umlauted.
If the verb describes a state change, the stressed vowel is umlauted and diphthongized (with I).
If the verb describes an action that is responsible for the current state, the stressed vowel is diphthongized (with U).
If the verb describes a repeated action, the stressed syllable is doubled.
Mood
The default mood is an assumption. Anything else is expressed with a prefix:
- known for sure: v(éi)-
- known from hearsay: hi(gh)-
- hoped: ró(r)-
- question: bfu(bf)-
Imperative is another mood. Politeness is important here:
- towards royals/deities: r(öu)-
- expressing politeness: o(d)-
- expressing equal status: ny(ïu)-
- expressing disrespect: h(é)-
Noun Classes
The noun class of the focus (see above) is a suffix that can merge with the last syllable of the verb by umlauting its vowel and/or changing its consonant:
- Noun classes with male/female/neutral distinction
- for animals: male suffix -ëd, female suffix -eud, neutral suffix -ed
- Noun classes for persons

- 2nd person singular: -dub / -duib
- 2nd person plural: -nöb / -noib / -nob
- 3rd person singular: -nügy / -nuigy
- 3rd person plural: -ögh / -ough / -ogh
