Lower Sorbian (Dolnoserbski, Niedersorbisch) is spoken by the Lower Sorbian minority in the region of Cottbus (Lower Lusatia, Germany), which usually prefer to be called "Wenden" (German word - Sg.: "Wende, der", Pl.: "Wenden, die") to distinguish themselves from the Upper Sorbs.
A major contributor to the current studies of Lower Sorbian language is Manfred Starosta who also collected many Lower Sorbian words in a dictionary called after him "Starosta" and providing translations from Lower Sorbian to German, but not vice versa (Dolnoserbsko-nimski słownik, Niedersorbisch-deutsches Wörterbuch).
Lower Sorbian is no official language, but is protected by German law as the language of a minority. As such they also have the chance to listen to some radio broadcasts in Lower Sorbian at certain times of the day.
The language is an intrinsic part of their traditions - the Sorbs are mainly known for their traditional clothes they wear at festivals and so on. There exist many legends/fairy tales with Sorbian roots in our region: e.g. that of the "Snake king" which can be seen as a patron on the roofs of Sorbian housings.
