Lebanese

From UniLang Wiki

Lebanese Arabic (LA) is the language spoken in Lebanon and by the Lebanese diaspora. LA is not usually written, but like any other language has its grammar, rules, and exceptions.

LA, like many spoken languages, is subject to cultural prejudices that prevent their speakers of scientific reasoning about it. There are two opposing views of spoken Lebanese which are sometimes debated among its speakers, both of which are very wrong: Some claim that there is no Lebanese language, that the only language 'serious' and 'educated' people speak and foreigners should learn Standard Arabic, and Lebanese is spoken without rules so foreigners can't learn it. Others want to claim that Lebanese has nothing to do with Arabic, or at least that Arabic is one language that Lebanese just borrows from, like English or French.

Here we will try to have a more scientifc approach to the Language. We will give the grammar rules that some natives deny they exist. We will give wordlists that show the others that the vast majority of lebanese words are Arabic, and the non-Arabic words are a small minority.

In the meantime, we give the following link to LA learning material.
