Låtuk is my first conlang with a history thus it should be more "natural" than the others. 4 languages are involved in this project:

  • Fatþupũ, the language of an ancient high culture that died out long ago.
  • Nhängqäkupoqh, the ancient language of an agricultural nation far away from where Fatþupũ was spoken and not related to it.
  • Gukhükheth, a language that derived from Nhängqäkupoqh.
  • Låtuk, the language I focus on, which also derived from Nhängqäkupoqh, but was influenced by Fatþupũ and Gukhükheth.

The Fatþupũ words in Låtuk describe terms of philosophy, culture and sciences. They are used by educated people and criticised as being old-fashioned. The Låtuk people discovered the ancient Fatþupũ civilisation and were eager to learn about this superior culture. The Gukhükheth people ignore Fatþupũ. Fatþupũ is called V'ts'pung in Låtuk.

The Gukhükheth words in Låtuk describe modern technology and everything related to youth culture. They are used by younger people and criticised as representing an inferior culture. The country of the Gukhükheth people is a neighbour of the Låtuk country, dominating it economically and technologically. The technologies, culture and language of Gukhükheth are in fashion among young Låtuk people. Gukhükheth is called Ket in Låtuk, and Låtuk is called Lathukh in Gukhükheth.

The old Nhängqäkupoqh culture is considered inferior by the Låtuk people, because it was a feudalistic agricultural society. The Gukhükheth people are proud of their Nhängqäkupoqh roots and especially of the fact that they are far advanced now. That’s why they still use Nhängqäkupoqh spelling, although the pronunciation has changed. Nhängqäkupoqh is called Ng'ngk'pok in Låtuk and Ngagagubokh in Gukhükheth.
