Korean writing systems

Korean is customarily written with a mix of two writing systems: Hanja (漢字) and Hangul (한글). Hanja is the Korean use of Chinese characters (unlike Japanese, Korean pronounciation of Chinese characters is somewhat faithful to the original Chinese pronounciations). Hangul is an alphabet designed specifically for Korean.
Most (but not all) Korean names are Chinese in origin, and are therefore customarily written in Hanja.
