Meeting Someone
始����。 (hajimemashite) lit. "We are beginning." Nice to meet you. (also: �����。 (hajimemashite) lit. "This is the first time."
宜ã?—ã??ã?Šé¡˜ã?„ã?—ã?¾ã?™ã€‚ (yoroshiku onegai shimasu) lit. "I ask you to treat me well." Nice to meet you, too. (Not strictly a response to "Hajimemashite"; both parties can use both phrases. There really isn't an English equivalent.) (also: 宜ã?—ã??ã?Šé¡˜ã?„致ã?—ã?¾ã?™ã€‚ (yoroshiku onegai itashimasu) Same, but more polite/humble.)

Eating a Meal
é ‚ã??ã?¾ã?™ã€‚ (itadakimasu) lit. "I recieve this." No English equivalent. Said before eating or drinking.
�馳走�����。 (gochisou sama deshita) lit. "It was a feast." Thank you for the meal. Said either to one's host or to no one in particular, when eating at home, to offer thanks.
