Introduction

Hindi (हिनदी) is one of the world's major languages, spoken by some 480 million people! Mostly in India where it is spoken either as a native language, or as a second language in combination with a more regional language such a Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi or others.. About 70% of India's population can speak Hindi, which makes it the second most spoken language in the world (Chinese holds the first place)

Hindi is one of the Indo-Iranian languages, a main-branch of the Indo-European language family.

A lot of hindi vocabulary is derived from Sanskrit, both languages also employ the same writing system, known as Devanagari.

Hindi is practically the same language as Urdu, spoken in Pakistan. The main difference is that Urdu uses an alphabet derived from arabic/persian while hindi uses Devanagari. And Urdu also has more vocabulary from arabic/persian origin where Hindi uses words derived from Sanskrit.
