Personal pronouns

  • Hawaiian distingishes between singular, dual, and plural (3+) pronouns.
au/wau - I.
'oe - you.
ia - he, she, it. This pronoun is usually preceded by the subject particle 'o, and is written and pronounced 'o ia.
wai - who (interrogative pronoun).
ha'i - someone else, a different person, no one we are talking about or would expect.
kāua - we (dual, inclusive).
kākou - we (plural, inclusive).
māua - we (dual, exclusive).
mākou - we (plural, exclusive).
'olua - you (dual).
'oukou - you (plural).
lāua - they (dual).
lākou - they (plural).
