Just like nouns and adjectives, articles show gender and number.

There are four kind of determiners: indefinite articles (like "a" and "an" in English), definite articles (like "the" in English), close demonstrative (like "this" and "these" in English), and remote demonstrative (like "that" and "those" in English).

Articles

Indefinite articles are used for something unspecific that hasn't been mentioned yet.
Definite articles are used to refer to nouns that have already been introduced.
Anything else (abstract nouns like "love", proper names) does not need an article.

Demonstratives

The first demonstratives shown here are used for something or someone near the speaker, the second for everything else.

Near the Speaker

Away from the Speaker
