Greadian verbs

From UniLang Wiki

This is probably the hardest part of Greadian grammar. Why? Because Greadian verbs have a lot of details that are really unusual and some of them may even be found really confusing. Let's take a closer look at them!

Contents

Introduction

I will introduce each main part briefly here and link to each main group for further information so the pages will not be too long and confusing.

Voice

The verbs, unlike most of languages, have three voices: active, passive and medium voice. Each of them has its own work to do. Greadian does have a lot of stuff that isn't usually used and other things that lack. For example it lacks reflexive verbs which is why the medium voice exists. For a learner's fortune, the passive and medium voices are really logical and quite easy to learn. Active voice, instead of that, is more complicated and requires more time to learn.

Tenses

Greadian has only three tenses: future, present and past (preterite) tense, exactly like most of slavic languages. However, there is also one more tense, future perfect, which is more rarely used and is marginal for that matter. What makes this more complicated, is that there are a lot of aspects that can 'detail' the tenses.

Moods

The verbs have a lot of different moods. They are all expressed with certain words or prefixes so that isn't so hard. The hard part is to learn when to use them. Another matter is that the active voice isn't the only using them. The same moods (mostly) can be used with other voices as well.

Number of persons

Like most of languages, Greadian has singular and plural number. Unfortunately, there is also the dual form in use. You can't go around dual with using plural, because it causes misunderstandings. All forms of verbs have dual!

Gender

This is the most interesting part. Greadian verbs have genders, namely masculine, feminine AND neuter. However, neuter is used mainly in the literal language.

Cases

Infinite has some few cases also. They aren't commonly used, but they exist in order to make sentences simplier.
