Emphasized adjectives

If you encounter a Finnish adjective that seems to be preceded by an odd word, it is most likely an "emphasized" adjective. The beginning of the word adds emphasis, sort of like "totally" or "really". Only some adjectives have an emphasized version, and without getting into more detailed explanations about why, here are the most common ones:

supisuomalainen - totally Finnish
täpötäysi - totally full
hipihiljainen - totally quiet
putipuhdas - totally clean
typötyhjä - totally empty
ypöyksin - totally alone
upouusi - totally full
patalaiska - totally lazy
ventovieras - totally unfamiliar
tuikituntematon - totally unknown
vitivalkoinen - totally white
vesiselvä - totally sober
pähkähullu - totally crazy
rutikuiva - totally dry
