Faroese personal pronouns
From UniLang Wiki
We use personal pronouns, instead of the names of those, we talk with or about. They are:
eg I
tú you
tygum you (formal)
hann he
hon she
tað it
They are divided into three persons:
1st person is the one, who is talking: eg
2nd person is the one, who is talked to: tú, tygum
3rd person is the one, who is talked about: hann, hon, tað

The personal pronoun tygum is used, when talking to people, who are older than you, people, you don't know very well, or who you admire. It must be said, that this custom is almost gone but the oppinions are different about this.
We put the verb in plural, when we use the personal pronoun tygum.
Hvussu var, tá ið tygum fóru til skips? - What was it like, when you went to sea?
Vita tygum at siga mær, um hon kemur? - Can you tell me, if she'll come?
Eg visti, at tygum høvdu koyrt bilin. - I knew, that you had driven the car.
Older and shorter forms of the personal pronouns are often used in litterature:
tygar, hans, hansar, hennar, okkar, tykkar, teim
The forms vær and tær appear in old language, like the chants, instead of vit and tit:
"Vær tváum okkum hvítar" - We wash us white. "Viljið tær nú lýða á" - Will you listen
Jeg, okur and tykur is used in the dialect of Suðuroy, where else where in the Faroe Islands eg, vit (okkum) and tit (tykkum) is used.
