Dalecarlian adverbs

From UniLang Wiki

Words which alone answer questions like Hvert? (= Where to?), Hvar? (= Where?), Hvar ... frâ? (= Where .... from?), Nâr? (= When?), Hvur kringt? (= How often?), Hvur lengi? (= For how long?), Hvur? (= How?), Hvur mikið? (= How much?), Hvur starkt? (= How strongly?), Hviso? (= Why?) etc. are said to be adverbs, and they are always preceded by a verb.
Consider the following questions with answers:

Question 1: Hvar ir fuglen? (= Where is the bird?),
Answer 1: Han ir ufâ tríiñu. (= It is above the tree.)

Question 2: Nâr far kallen? (= When will the man leave?),
Answer 2: Han far klukkañ sjaks. (= He will leave six o'clock.)
Question 3: Hvur hafr krippen heð? (= How is the child?),
Answer 3: Han hafr heð so ein prins. (= He is feeling like a prince.)
Instead of using the underlined phrases as answers, one can use adverbs:

Answer 1*: Han ir þar. (= It is there.)
Answer 2*: Han far . (= He will leave now.)
Answer 3*: Han hafr heð hæpt. (= He is well.)

The words þar, and hæpt are adverbs. Adverbs appear in situations

* when something happens: Ig stíg upp bittíð (= I go up early),
* where something is: Bálden ir hjar (= The ball is here),
* where something is taking place: M[oslash´]tið var þar inni (= The meeting was in there),
* where something is going to: Hoñ fór þíttir (= She went thither),
* how something is: Báten ir ufendis stúr (= The boat is very big),
* how something happens: Heð hendi knappast (= It hardly happened),
* why something is happening: Ferþ[oslash´] fór han umstað (= That is why he left),
* when estimating: Hoñ dug sagta vildera enn han (= She is without doubt more cunning than he is),
* acception: , ig kumb (= Yes, I will come),
* denial: , þú far ikki (= No, you will not go)

Some adverbs are declined, but only in comparation.

To make adverbs stronger, one may often use prefices such as ljót-, oðer- or uf-. Exemples: ljótlítið (= very little), oðerfínt (= extra finely), ufstrítt (= very quickly), ljótbra (= very well), oðernóga (= extra carefully), ufkringt (= very often), ljótlengi (= for a very long time) etc.

We divide the adverbs into six groups:

* Dalecarlian interrogative adverbs
* Dalecarlian adverbs of time
* Dalecarlian adverbs of place
* Dalecarlian adverbs of degree and manner
* Dalecarlian adverbs of comment and cause
* Dalecarlian adverb declension
