Declension (noun phrases)

Declension is special in Asinggu, as every agreement feature is only indicated in one part of speech.

Case (given in articles)
indicates the role of this noun in the sentence.

  • nominative = subject
  • accusative = direct object
  • dative = indirect object
  • genitive = possessor

Noun Class (given in adjectives)
indicates which topic the noun refers to.

  • culture/politics
  • language
  • nature/object/property
  • emotion/person
  • technology

Number (given in nouns)
indicate how many objects you are talking about.

  • singular: 1
  • plural: several

Conjugation (verbs)

Verbs are not conjugated in person and number. They do indicate something, though. ;-)

Mood (expressed with a particle preceding the verb)

  • known from experience
  • hearsay or known from literature
  • opinion
  • (scientifically) discovered

Tense (expressed with verb endings)
indicate when something happens.

  • remote past ("long ago")
  • past ("earlier")
  • present ("now")
  • future ("later")

Continuity (expressed with an auxiliary) indicates that something has been going on before and/or will continue later.

  • remote past: "used to do"
  • past: "have been doing"
  • present: "do"
  • future: "will still do"
