Arabic: Simple Nominal Questions

When you want to transform a nominal sentence (a sentence using "to be") to a simple yes/no question then you have to use the question particle: (hal) هل . This particle appears at the beginning of the sentence:
Example:
- affirmative sentence: You are a student - ('anta tālib) انت طالب
- questioning sentence: Are you a student - (hal 'anta tālib?) هل انت طالب؟
One can answer such a question with "yes" - (na`am) نعم or "no" - (lā) لا
