Affricate

From UniLang Wiki

An affricate is a sound that begins with a stop (=plosive) and ends with a fricative. It is considered as one sound, and the position of the tongue is not changed.

The two English and the two Faroese affricates are ʤ (John) and ʧ (chain).

In German there is for example ʦ as in Zeit or "pf" as in Pferd.

The affricates ʧ, ʤ and ʦ are quite common and have their own IPA characters, whereas for example the bilabial affricate "pf" doesn't have its own character. ʧ is sometimes also written as tʃ, or with a ligature above the two characters.
