Affix
An affix is an addition to a word to give some grammatical and/or semantic change.
Examples (English):

| trying | Suffix -ing creates participle form | |
| quickly | Suffix -ly creates adverb from adjective | |
| anaerobic | Prefix an- inverts meaning (semantic change) |
An affix added to the front of the word is a prefix; an affix added to the end is a suffix; an affix added in the middle of the word is an infix.
