Hi there.
I'm learning arabic in my spare time :)
I speak english, french, plus some italian, and a dash of russian.
Arabic characters don't seem to be shown properly on microsoft IE, with the default font for this wiki :

اسْك?ن ?ي بَريس
ways I've found of changing the font :

  • the markup: == example. ك?تَبٌ ==gives:

example. ك?تَبٌ

  • normal font gives: book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ

Here's the code: <div style="font-size:XX-Large;font-family:monospace;"> book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ</div>

  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
  • book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ

My favorite is
book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ
which has the markup: <div style="font-size:X-Large;font-family:monospace;"> book ك?تَبٌ - books ك?ت?بٌ</div>

some questions about this site

  • Where do I find the list of 450 basic words people suggested to translate for each language?
  • What are the main places where people discuss things related to this wiki? Is there a discussion group, or something?
  • what stats do we have for this wiki? How many active users, so on? It seems quite quiet at the moment...

Interesting questions:

  • You can find some stats for the wiki here: http://home.unilang.org/wiki2/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Statistics The link is in the "Special pages" section. Your best bet of seeing which users are active is looking at the recent changes or the history of a page you are interested in.
  • The wiki as used by Wikipedia is very page-specific, so any comments will most likely be about one page which can be dealt with in the talk-page for that page. But there are also many pages at wikipedia about principles, e.g. "Neutral point of view", editing principles, ... If more people were active in this wiki it might also be useful to have pages discussing the workings of the wiki rather than just the contents, but the number of people actively editing the wiki is still rather low, and most people concentrate on a small subset of pages they are interested in. To reach a large number of UniLangers the most efficient way is still to write in the forum. I don't believe many people regularly check the recent changes page of the wiki.
  • To add translations or corrections to the UniLang basic word list (and other categories), you can go here: http://www.unilang2.org/mg/mgedit.php. To extract the wordlist for printing, you can find an interface to the MediaGlyphs database here: http://home.unilang.org/main/vocab.php. However I notice (under Mozilla) that there is a problem with the page, the MediaGlyphs box appears to the right of the page, mostly cut off.
