Ласкаво просимо (Warm welcome)

Together with Russian, Belarusian and Rusyn, Ukrainian forms the group of Eastern_Slavic languages. The Ukrainian language is different from Russian even though the two utilize similar versions of the Cyrillic alphabet. It is incorrect to call Ukrainian an old dialect of Russian. The capital of the Ukraine is Kyiv (formerly known as the Kyivska Rus' before the Russian Czars).

Interestingly Ukrainian shows many similarities to both Polish and Russian, although Polish belongs to the Western Slavonic language group. Ukrainian uses the Cyrillic alphabet with slightly more letters than Russian. Some are pronounced differently than in Russian. "г" for example sounds more like the Latin "h".

Ukrainian is the official language of the country. The Russian language is still utilized primarily in the Eastern part of the country.
