Thai colours

Colours are not usually mentioned on their own in Thai but are prefixed by the word สี (see^R) which is a classifier meaning 'colour' or 'paint'.

หนังสือสี�?ดง
nang^R seuu^R see^R daaeng^M
A red book. (Book colour red.)

The name of the colour is often repeated but this seems to be more for euphony than anything else. If a classifier is required, it comes after the colour.

โสร่งสือสี�?ดง�?ดง
sa^L rohng^L see^R daaeng^M daaeng^M
A red sarong.

โสร่งสืฟ้าสองผืน
sa^L rohng^L see^R faa^H saawng^R pheuun^R
