Russian reflexive verbs
From UniLang Wiki
Reflexive verbs are indicated by the ending -ся (after consonants) or -сь (after vowels). Apart from the usual reflexive function, the reflexive form can also have other functions, though, e.g. for creating passive or expressing a desire/inclination.

Using a reflexive verb can also indicate that one would like to do something. Я хочу indicates a strong desire, I want, while мне хочется? is a milder form, equivalent to I would like. In this case both the strong and mild form are equally frequently used, and when followed by a verb both are in the infinitve form.
- Я хочу спать. - I want to sleep.
- мне хочется спать. - I would like to sleep.
One can even use the reflexive form not with the modal verb, but use it directly with the verb one wants to express:
- Мне спится. - I feel like sleeping
In English you would normally see I feel sleepy. (German uses a similar reflexive construction: Mir ist nach etwas zumute).
