Male nouns end on consonants, й and some of the nouns ending on ь.

For example:

хлеб, нож, м�?ч, �?тол, поезд
трамвай, музей

It is tricky to know when a word ending in ь is male and when female.

Many of the words ending in -тель are male, for example: учитель, �?троитель, водитель

Other words: Кремль, дождь, го�?ть, ноль, контроль, огонь, конь, день

Also there are some male nouns having "a" "�?" at the end: папа, д�?д�?, �?таршина, воевода
