The rules for using capitals in Russian are few and simple:

  • Only the first word in a sentence and the first word in a title are capitalised
  • Nationalities, the names of the months and days of the week are not capitalised in Russian unless they occur at the beginning of a sentence.
  • The pronoun " I " (я) is only capitalised at the beginning of a sentence.
  • The pronoun " you " [formal, plural] (вы) may be capitalised as a sign of respect (Вы) in official documents and correspondence. See also Russian politeness.
