Retroflex
From UniLang Wiki
A retroflex consonant is a consonant in which the tip of the tongue is curled back and touching the palate.
In IPA retroflex consonants are marked with a little hook, e.g.: ɖ ɳ ʂ [[IPA: ?|?]] ɻ ɭ ʈ ɽ.
Several Indian languages have retroflex plosives, fricatives and nasals as phonemes: Hindi and Sanskrit ट? ṭ [ʈ], ठ? ṭh [ʈʰ], ड? ? [ɖ], ढ? ?h [ɖʰ], ष? ṣ [ʂ], ण? ṇ [ɳ]. Other languages may have retroflex allophones, for instance clusters with initial r in Swedish: rt [ʈ], rd [ɖ], rs [ʂ]...
