POPE (Mòmì) PU

From UniLang Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The verb "to be" is PU (mù) in POPE. The verb is irregular, but not as illogical as its equivalent in English and most other Indo-European languages.
The irregularity comes from the fact that both the absolutive (object) and the ergative (subject) of "to be" refer to the same object, hence they share the same number and politeness degree.

This is the complete conjugation, including the pronunciation of the three moods (the stressed vowel is underlined):

  equal humble respectful
singular PU PULI UUTUUPU
hearsay vü vüly üüzüüvü
suspition mù mùly ùnùmù
fact bu buly uuduubu
dual PUKUJ PUKUJULI UUTUUJALUPU
hearsay vürhür vürhürüly üüzüürhälüvü
suspition mùngùr mùngùrùly ùnùrèlùmù
fact bugur buguruly uuduuralubu
plural PULI PULILI UUTUUTEPU
hearsay vüly vülyly üüzüüzivü
suspition mùly mùlyly ùnùnìmù
fact buly bulyly uuduudebu

Note that the humble singular is identical to the equal plural.
