Numbers

Numbers in Okyyryn are based on 16 with a base-4 system underneath. Look how this works:

Mathematics

  • Okyyryn doesn't have a symbol for addition, you just put a space between the addends: W D|OI (8+9=17) lysput kyysht kyyloosh pö sysput lyyloosh
  • The minus symbol is a backslash: D\J|V (9-3=6) kyyloosh usoopn lyytooshn pö lytydhn
  • Our minus symbol is used for multiplication: G-A|JOY (5*10=50) lylush owyy kyytydhn pö lyytooshn sysput lyytyydhn
  • A slash is used for division: B/V|Y (12/6=2) kyysput joosdhop lytydhn pö lyytyydhn
  • An 'e' is used to exponentiate: YeJ|W (2³=8) lyytyydhn sutso lyytooshn pö lysput
  • A gamma is used for roots: AOIγY|D (√81=9) lylush sysput lyyloosh yyxooj lyytyydhn pö kyyloosh
  • The number zero ()is only used by mathematicians. It is simply called xyp ("nothing").
  • Negative numbers are written with a backslash before the first digit: \C (-10) usoopn kyytooshn.
  • Fractions are not common in Okyyryn. You can, however, abbreviate 1/ಕ with /ಕ (1/x).
  • Instead of a decimal point or comma, Okyyryn uses the symbol °: J/Y|I°W (3/2=1.5) lyytooshn joosdhop lyytyydhn pö lyyloosh kuudhuun lysput. Note that 1/2 = 8/16, thus = .8 in the hexadecimal system.
  • The ° symbol is used after every hexadecimal digit.
  • Since there is no number zero, hexadecimal fractions between 0 and 1 are expressed like this: °P (.4 hexa = 4/16 = .25 decimal) kuudhuun lyysput.
  • Periods are written with a colon. The symbol can be used to disambiguate: /V|°Y°G:|°Y°‘G: (1/6 = 0.2AA... hexa = 2/16+10/240 = 0.166... decimal).

Measurements

Length

Length is measured in toxootyyn (derived from Proto-Okyyryn tosxyn lyychulsuut'yyn = lower leg). One toxootyyn (Iತ~) is 0.52808117 m. There are no derived unites like "km" or "cm", but hexadecimal multiples are frequently used:

  • /Жತ~ = 1/4,294,967,296 tox. = 0.123 nm
  • /Eತ~ = 1/65,536 tox. = 0.8 µm
  • /Kತ~ = 1/256 tox. = 2 mm
  • /Oತ~ = 1/16 tox. = 3.3 cm
  • Oತ~ = 16 tox. = 8.45 m
  • Kತ~ = 256 tox. = 135.2 m
  • Eತ~ = 65,536 tox. = 34.6 km
  • Жತ~ = 4,294,967,296 tox. = 2,268,091 km

Surface

Surface is measured in xowusyyn (derived from Proto-Okyyryn sosxoch lyychulsuut'yyn = leg circle). One xowusyyn (Iಶ~) is the surface of a circle with a diameter of one toxootyyn.

  • /Жಶ~ = 1/4,294,967,296 xow. = 51 nm²
  • /Eಶ~ = 1/65,536 xow. = 3.34 mm²
  • /Kಶ~ = 1/256 xow. = 8.56 cm²
  • /Oಶ~ = 1/16 xow. = 137 cm²
  • Iಶ~ = 1 xow. = 0.219 m²
  • Oಶ~ = 16 xow. = 3.5 m²
  • Kಶ~ = 256 xow. = 56 m²
  • Eಶ~ = 65,536 xow. = 1.435 ha
  • Жಶ~ = 4,294,967,296 xow. = 940.7 km²

Pi

Since the surface unit is defined with circles rather than squares, you needn't calculate πr² to calculate a circle surface. Instead, you use the same number, but with a different unit.

But calculating squares becomes more complicated. In our mathematics, the surface of a square with the side length a is . In Okyyryn mathematics, it's ಖ~a, where ಖ~ (kooxyyn, from Proto-Okyyryn k'oosxyyrn = "square") is 4/π.

ಖ~|I°P°A°S°J°O°V°Q°B°D°B°W°W°Z°G°A°J°S°W°P°X°J... (4/π=1.27323954473516268615107010698011489...)

Kooxyyn is usually considered the most important constant in Okyyryn mathematics.

Volume

Volume is measured in totusyyn (derived from Proto-Okyyryn t'otn lyychulsuut'yyn = leg sphere). One totusyyn (Iಥ~) is the volume of a sphere with a diameter of one toxootyyn.

  • /Жಥ~ = 1/4,294,967,296 tot. = 0.018 mm³
  • /Eಥ~ = 1/65,536 tot. = 1.177 cm³
  • /Kಥ~ = 1/256 tot. = 301 cm³
  • /Oಥ~ = 1/16 tot. = 4.21 l
  • Iಥ~ = 1 tot. = 77.108 l
  • Oಥ~ = 16 tot. = 1.234 m³
  • Kಥ~ = 256 tot. = 19.74 m³
  • Eಥ~ = 65,536 tot. = 5053.4 m³
  • Жಥ~ = 4,294,967,296 tot. = 0.3312 km³
