Nhängqäkupoqh has 18 consonants. All fricatives are voiced, all stops are voiceless. There is a distinction between aspirated and non-aspirated stops. Stops, fricatives and nasals exist for all 4 points of articulation.
All of the 6 vowels (three front, three back vowels) are rounded.
A [ɔ], like the O in "got" (British English)
Ä [œ], like the French ŒU in "œuf" or short German Ö
GH [ɣ], softer than Spanish J or Scottish/German CH in "Loch"
K [k], like the K in "skit"
KH [kʰ], like the K in "key"
L [l], like the L in "love"
M [m], like the M in "man"
N [n], like the N in "no"
NG [ŋ], like the NG in "sing"
NH [ɴ], NG pronounced in the throat (uvular)
O [o], like the French EAU in "beau", similar to the OA in "boat"
Ö [ø], like the French EU or long German Ö
P [p], like the P in "spit"
PH [pʰ], like the P in "pay"
R [r], trilled R as in Scottish, Italian or Russian
RH [�?], fricative R pronounced in the throat as in French or German
Q [q], K pronounced in the throat (uvular)
QH [qʰ], KH pronounced in the throat (uvular)
T [t], like the T in "stone"
TH [tʰ], like the T in "tea"
U [u], like the OO in "boot"
Ü [y], like the French U or German Ü
V [v], like the V in "vain"
Z [z], like the Z in "zoo"
All syllables consist of a consonant followed by a vowel and possibly another consonant. So there are never two vowels in a row, and never more than two consonants in a row.
All words are stressed on the last syllable of their root.
