Inseparable

Some Hebrew prepositions are prefixed to the word that follows them. These are:

ל (le) - to, toward, for *

ב (be/ba) - in, on, by *

כ (ke) - like, as *

מ (me/mi) - from, out of (also comes in separable form - מן)

  • When prefixed to a noun the definite article is ommited.

Examples:

נתתי לדויד �?ת הספר (natati ledavid et hasefer) - I gave David the book

המפתחות במכונית (hamaftechot bamechonit)- The keys are in the car

צ�? מש�?! (tse misham) - get out of there!


�?ת - et

The �?ת preposition comes before the direct object - if the object is definite. This preposition doesn't exist in English.

Examples:

Definite - �?ני �?והבת �?ת הסרט הזה (ani ohevet et haseret haze) - I love this movie

Indefinite - �?ני �?והבת סרטי�? (ani ohevet sratim) - I love movies



Separable

Here's a list of some common separable prepositions:

על (al) - on, about

מתחת (mitachat) - under

�?ל (el) - to

בין (beyn) - between

ע�? (im) - with

בלי (bli) - without

�?חרי (achrey) - after

לפני (lifney) - before

מן (min) - from



Suffixes

It is possible to personalize prepositions by adding prenomial suffixes to the preposition >> Languages >> Hebrew >> Hebrew Grammar
