Germanic languages

Germanic languages is a very wide concept. It is a quite big language family with some very big languages in it. The Germanic languages come from the Proto-Germanic language, at least we think they do. There is no evidence for it, but it is very unlikely that languages exist at once. You can divide those languages which come from Proto-Germanic into West Germanic, North Germanic and East Germanic.
The Germanic languages form a group within the Indo-European family, together with Romance, Slavonic and many others.
