Sand. All around you, nothing but sand. It colors your clothing a pale, dusty brown, it grates against your skin under your ragged shirt, it burns your right foot. You're too exhausted to even remember when you lost that shoe. You feel certain that your tongue is swollen enough to choke you, if only given the chance.
Everywhere, the sand scrapes past itself in the hot, restless wind, whispering sshashe, sshashe.
On the shimmering horizon, you imagine you see a giant cat dancing in the heated air. You'd laught at yourself if you could make noise, but your throat rebels at the thought. A second cat joins your first imaginary one. You wonder, somewhat detachedly, if anything outside of your imagination will find your body.
The felines are almost to you now, running across the sand. What the hell, you figure. With supreme effort, you rasp out "Wa'er!" and collapse into the vast desert.
The last thing you hear is the strange cat shouting strange words: "Aiyo! Cha'arevlesó ne uruman! Vik'vo!" And then you black out.
